You paddle out for a surf, you’ve been waiting for about 30 min with no sets when you decide to paddle like mad for an insider and miss it.You turn around and the the sky disappears!!!
Would you rather?…
Take a 10 foot teahupoo set on the head?
Or
Take a 15 foot mavericks set on the head?

i’m going chops
take off my leash and start swimming for the bottom praying there’s not another one and the ocean doesn’t suck me back.

i’d rather chopes, giant waves in freezing water sucks. Mavs is a lit deeper but still to cold for the long holddowns. Plus there are no Great whites if you do have to swim. I know chopes has tigers but GW scare me more

Mavs….because I’d rather be cold, deep and alone rather than hamburger because I got sucked back over the reef at Choppersville. Can I choose Old Man’s instead??

I’d go mavericks any day, would be waaaay too scared of that ridiculously thick lick slamming me onto the very shallow bottom at chopes, I’d rather lick wee off stingy nettles than do that. great site! x

I’m with Ceej…. Swim for your life Charlie Brown!! I feel like a warm water death at Chopes would be a bit more peaceful than Dark, Cold, Mavs.

Mavs, definitely. I’d be scared shiftless, of course, but Mavs. Hell, this has happened to me and I survived. A ride on that shallow reef at Chopes ain’t my idea of fun.

Mavs 15 feet is safer than chops for sure!!

I’m going Mavs for sure although I haven’t experienced a 15 footer on the head at Mav’s

I’m gonna throw it out there throw it back if you want. None i would rather sit on the sideline at Chopes brew in my claw and watch the Top 4.5 smash it with notable inclusions of Gerry Lopez, Ry Craike, Bruce and Andy. Keep up the blog boys good stuff.

How deep is it where it’s breaking at Chopes? Can you make it down and hold on?
May 11th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I dunno man… both seem pretty deadly… like 10% survival rate without scratch
May 11th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
LOOK AT THAT FIRST PIC OF CHOPES! 10x much more water moving. Mavs for sure
May 11th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
shit. both would be horrible. but i’d have to go for mavs.

Pinballing through the boulders at Mavs or clinging to the ledge at Chopes? I’m scared enough just thinking about both of them. I’ll take Mavs, I think. More room to move, maybe giving me a better chance. Good question.

Just trying to pick one gave me the runs.

Neither!!!

10 foot Teahupoo is huge
15 foot Mav is not huge, the place gets way bigger (I even think that 15 foot is considered small there)
looking from that point of view, would choose 15 foot at Mav for sure

Man I usually surf Mavericks with Jeff Clark most weekdays and can only make it to Teahupoo on a Saturday or Sunday but I gotta tell you that in all my years I never took one on the head so I guess what I´m saying is be carefull out there and remember it´s just fine by me aloha
