Might have to have a tie breaker between Parko and Adriano unless you you use most total amount of claims as the tie breaker where Adriano (and every other Brazilian) wins this one easy.

I am not sure if it was really a claim, but the best claim I can remember was I think Damo, at Teahpoo, when you came out of the baza lauched 20ft in the air grabbing your nuts the whole time & came down head 1st, lol

Best claim i’ve seen was proabably ANdy at chopes when he did the double pump shotty right at Dingo (of course the score was not high enough, but im waiting for my day to do that). Best legit claim ive seen is Parko at both Pipe and Kirra when he got those ten’s and came out showing the judges ten fingers like he knew whats up. I do get frustrated on the Brazo claimes, i know a lot of cool brazilians, but there should be a rule that unless its a huge pipe o chopes tube, or just a ridiculaous punt like Jordy’s rodeo clown in indo, you should never claim… one exception pulling into huge closeouts Ie Bruce at the Eddie or Shawn Briley circa 95!!!

My favorite of that video is the one of the French wildcard (the one that beat Parko, Pat somethin?) where he puts his hands together over his head and then steps off his board. He looks like he is challenging anyone to fight him.
Who’s the guy at Supertubes, I think, that’s riding a wave and just turns all the way around and gives a shoulder shrug to the judges? I like that one too, not really a claim though, more of a “whoops”.

Adriano is shameless with the claims. Whether it’s numbers of claims or rated by the degree of epileptic fit, Adriano wins hands down. Difference is soem of these are done out of humor, not to try and squeeze and extra point out of every ride, especialy if it was a stinkbug squat, three whitewater tap to the beach, followed by a seizure claim. The big boys like AI, Slater, Goods, Parko, etc. don’t find the need unless they are overcome with stoke by doing something exceptional or they are just clowing around. Again, not trying doing it to vacuum the judges.

Do you guys actually write the ASP or the contest sponsor to obtain permission ? Or do you just sort of automatically have permission because you’re

B/ you’re both WCT’ers, and you know no-one will hassle you.
Even if I could get permission to re-publish these videos, I know it would take me days. But you guys do it just like that. What’s the secret ?

PS hope to see you both in the Pipe Semi-Finals. I would say, hope to see you in the FINALS, but I have to be true to Parko. For Parko to go all the way, he will probably have to beat a Hobgood.

Every claim should subtract 1 point from the score. Claiming a 7 pointer or less should get you disqualified from your heat.

Got to love crew who claim someone else coming out of a pit right in front of them. Just pure stoke seeing someone else getting shacked!
Like EY said, you should get points deducted for low score claims, but you should get points for claiming someones elses wave…..imagine everyone claiming there opponents waves in heats….priceless!

i like this post. @SAt Beach, ANdy NZ, solid points. I actually like Ey’s idea, but sometimes a claim in necessary. IE when Anndy was comboed by slater at pipe what 3 years ago? and got that ten and was like WTF> but thats different cause its like a stadium, its not 2 ft lowers and “hey i did a sick backside turn i should claim it” so my 5.5 becomes a 5.7, f-it, we need a hobgood in the final show boys!!!!!!

So much to generalize that all Brazilians claim. I must agree that Adriano is ridiculous claiming at 3 ft turns. But you guys generalize toooooo much.
How about Bruno Santos??? HE IS BRAZILIAN!! Have you seen him claiming on the 12 ft barrels last year on the Teahupo trials?? So??
BTW, Bruno is THE 1ST AND ONLY wild card (Trials) competitor to win a WCT event in a foreign country (Tahiti is not Brazil right?).

no offense @armlock. i said i respect all brazilian surfers, shit, they/re ten times the surfer i am. but if you watch the tour, there arnt many hawaiians, Seppos, ozzies, or euros claiming everysingle wave they catch. obviously if you get the wave you need in the heat of battle then its just pure emotion like scoring a big goal in soccer or hockey and celbrating. But seriously, ive seen Jihad and Adriano, raoni monterio (sP) was the WORST!!!! he would claim a friggin bottom turn. Still, they made the tour and i wait tables for a living so who the hell am i!!!! haha

@dustin…you make some good points bro! i mean yeah fully if you just got spat out of a sick deep barrel then fully claim away! but Adriano point in case that heat agaistn slater at Mundaka that was a joke he surfed shit and was claiming every thing it was a joke. I say surfed shit because i have seen him surf a whole lot better and i honestly like the guy and think hes a great surfer. i was blowen away by his surfing this year at the gold coast event when they shifted to Kirra it was kinda heavy close out but he was ripping the crap out of it!
did you see that Barrel that Dane got at jay bay this year was a really deep one and didn’t look like he was going to make it i don’t think he even claimed that! (could be wrong)

@andy nz. Nah man i dont remember that, but Dane would never claim anything… he’s just not that type of dude. Did Michel Bourez claim that 10 point triple barrel a j-bay??? cant remember, but that was worthy of a claim. i think another one of my fav claims was Nathan Hedge at pipe when he got a last minute wave to win the heat and requalify (although i think he still missed the cut) but he came in and kissed the sand at pipe, pretty legendary. thats raw emotion right there

Kellys beer in the Barrel at Chopes was a pretty good claim. Your right Danes a pretty mellow sort he dosen’t seem to rate himself all that much even though he Rips!
Michel’s Barrel i don’t remember if he did! was worth a claim though!

@ Dustin,Parko did NOT win the trials at J.Bay. He was a Billabong pick. Bruno won the trials at heavy 12ft+ Teahupo and went to win the competition. No other has done it. For the record (there is a difference between getting a wildcard because of your sponsor, and winning a trials, against folk like J. O’brien)

And my point was why generalize so much. Like any other main surfing nation, Brazil has its share of crazy big riders (Burle, Resende, etc…) WCT and free surfers. To say that all brazilians are “claimers” is very short sighted. And, for the record, I believe that Adriano is way too much on his claims, but he is just another brazo. That’s all…
