Would you rather have the video section of the year, win most radical maneuver, and best performance by a male at Surfer Poll

    or

Win a WCT event and finish inside the top 10.

I would rather have the video section, and the poll awards. Looks like their having more fun when surfing and get to go to different spots they want to go, rather than 12 stops where they are forced to go to.

    Defo the First !!!!!!

maybe you didnt travel to every spot where the video was filmed, maybe your video section was filmed while youe where surfing your homebreak and thats the section the only section they are using of you……and maybe you dont go to the 12 stops on tour , seems like lots of guys on tour like to skip brazil these days, besides if you make the top ten you have your spot secured for the next year on second rounds.

Having a sick video section and chasing the best waves all year without much pressure and getting praised is pretty sick but how much character does that really build?

What builds character is sacrificing soooo much, being away from family, surfing crappy waves, training and being gone from home for long periods and getting written off when you don’t succeed makes that WCT win soooo gratifying.

So ill take the win even when the other looks so tempting.

Look at lebron people could claim he’s the best basketball player ever but until he gets those rings his thirst will never be quenched.

    I heard that CJ!!

  • you know who Says:

all i no is you better not show up at lowers again…just a warning…

  • Andy Says:

you think many guys will opt out of barzil this year seems an unpopular spot and beeing that its not at a critical time of the year maybe some will flag it?

  • Arnie Says:

I pick the video section and awards…but if you change that top 10 to a top 5 my answer would be different.

  • Steve Says:

    Win. Top 10 finish.

This assumes I’m not peaking out with that finish.

If my career is peaking at that point, definitely go the other route. Get a tow partner people could never imagine me surfing with because that could create a lot of “buzz,” start charging big waves on a tow board, and change my public image to that of a soul charging gnarly wave hunter. Maybe I could grow a soul patch, too, ’cause those are cool. Or just stop shaving altogether except the fourth Tuesday of every month. Stubble is core. Hmmmm….

I would rather win all 12 events, win the video section I shot during off time in the competition, win the top position at the surfer poll AND get the award for hottest move of the year. Oh yeah and one more thing…..take all the pretty girls to dinner and playtime at my place after winning EVERYTHING! Then all the rest of the surfing world could scrap for seconds. Hahahahah!!

the win would be sick and to be that consistent would be insane! but on the other hand u could just be the most mental surfer that is pushing surfing to a whole new level

    soooo hard

  • michael Says:

videoooo section!! timeless shit! the awards who cares??!!! although the one for most radical maneuver is kinda cool

  • Jason Says:

Win a WCT and finish in the top ten for sure. Winning the others prizes would be gratifying, but will be forgotten eventually, while a surfer who finishes in the top ten will always have that part in history.

By the way, great interview on ESPN, Ceej. Although if you keep it up (relevant interviews with interesting people), they may ban you from all surf journalism since the unwritten rule is never dig into anything, just keep publishing cookie cutter stories about sponsored guys on canned surfed trips.

Contests and rankings are BS. There’s a contest almost every weekend now at HB. The entire south side off limits for a hundred yards. Perfect waves going unmolested so we can watch timid twerps dodge sets. It’s out of control.

  • Costa Dave Says:

I would have to go with the win and the top 10 finish. Time on the tour is limited but time for video spots are endless!

  • ceej Says:

ANDY i think a couple guys could come down with some sort of sickness, the swine flu?a couple dudes had sore throats last year, the question should be is what excuse will kelly give to the asp?

ps. can more people write on here how i should never show up to there surf spot.

    the haters need love tooooo

    yew!

  • Damo Says:

I’m going with the video part always thought it would be nice to achieve those things.

  • Andy Says:

Yeah your right Ceej. I’d have to say with his 17ths to date this year he wont go.
Are you expceting better conditions this year due to going earlyer in the year?
Bring back Gland! could see a Damo Ceej final in epic indo lefts

  • Jus10 Says:

yeah, you or your brother better not show up to surf the jetties in my hood either or its on!

  • Abe Says:

Well I’m going to have to agree with CJ on this one: Surfing contests do build character.

Anyone can edit a vid to make you look sick, anyone can stick a move they have been trying for months on end, being a popular surfer doesn’t really mean you surf good….it shouldn’t be a popularity contest to decide who is the best surfer.

Whilst the world tour takes determination and to quote CJ “sacrificing soooo much”.

I admire a surfer who can battle their way to the top and win a contest. Only a select few can do it, and it takes a lot of heart to surf before a panel judges and spectators who decide your fate. You have to work hard at it and you have to take your losses and learn from them.

Remember Tiger Woods didn’t become famous by making golf vids.

Also CJ and Damo I know a sick secret spot on the Gold Coast your welcome to enjoy: here’s a hint it’s between Kirra and Dbar and starts with S? you can some surf it anytime! (just promise you won’t tell anyone where it is)

  • Damo Says:

Thanks Abe is also know a secret spot near San Clemente that is a peak wave that know one knows about because it is a long walk and you can see it from the freeway and it starts with L.

  • Andy Says:

have you surf that left in New Zealand that starts with R
